Lake Como and Villa Del Balbianello

Lake Como is one of northern Italy’s most famous areas thanks to its pristine mountain-ringed waters, palatial villlas with lush grounds like Villa del Balbaniello, one of the settings for Casino Royale, and of course, celebrities like George Clooney who own houses there. Just an hour north of Milan, the city of Como on the lake’s southern edge offers a compact historic downtown and ferry connections to towns like Bellagio.

The Villa del Balbianello in Lenno is open daily and can be reached either by foot or by boat. We recommend taking a round-trip boat from Lido di Lenno (near the parking lot) as the walk is a good distance over hilly terrain. Round-trip is €7 – combined with park admission €13. (Park admission alone is €7.50, combo ticket with house visit is €13.) Hours: Daily March – November 10am – 6pm, last house visit is 4:30pm, last entry 5:15pm.

Rabat, Morocco

Print Rabat, Morocco’s capital city, is flush with history and culture unbeknownst to the many Morocco-bound tourists who flock to Tangiers and Casablanca. For those who venture off the beaten path, however, Rabat will prove just as rewarding.
